Neighborhoods--Downtown Winslow

You will sometimes hear downtown Bainbridge Island referred to as Winslow. That's because in 1990, when the Islanders voted to incorporate the rural areas with the city neighborhoods, the entire Island was named the City of Bainbridge Island. Though the name "Winslow" has been officially removed, most Islanders still refer to the downtown area near the ferry terminal as Winslow.

This section describes neighborhoods near downtown and the ferry terminal. On your map, the downtown Winslow neighborhood is generally south of High School Road, east of Finch/Wyatt intersection and north of the Eagle Harbor coastline.

Downtown/Winslow
Though there are a many single-family homes remaining in the downtown area, this is where the majority of the condominiums and town homes on the Island reside. Like any downtown area, the quality of properties ranges from less expensive to premiere offerings. Immediate proximity to shopping, restaurants, entertainment and ferries says it all - this is town living at its best. You will also find most of the Island's government offices at City Hall in the downtown area. You might want to check out what the locals call T&C - Town and Country Market. A great place to pick up prepared foods for a picnic lunch, snatch up a beautiful bouquet of flowers or shop for gourmet and organic delights. Hillandale, Midden Point and Weaver Creek are neighborhood enclaves in the downtown Winslow area.

Ferncliff/Woodland Village/Yeomalt Point
The Ferncliff neighborhood is located due north of the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal. In this neighborhood, you will find convenient condominium living as well as established, gracious areas of single-family homes -- some with views of Seattle. Along Ferncliff Avenue is a safe bike/walking lane to the ferry terminal making it a favorite commute-to-Seattle neighborhood.

Wing Point
If you sat on the north side of the ferry as it approached Bainbridge Island from Seattle, you saw Wing Point. It's the beautiful peninsula bordered by Eagle Harbor on the south and Puget Sound on the north. In the Wing Point neighborhood, you will find homes with and without views on and off the private Wing Point Country Club golf course. It's an ideal location of private residential homes and close proximity to downtown and the ferries. Part of the Wing Point experience is the soulful whistle sounds of the ferries. You may hear the neighborhood referred to as the "Carmel" of Bainbridge Island.
